Administrative Rolls

These are rolls made for tasks related to re-ordering, requesting resources, or acquiring permission to access opportunities, privileges, or resources. Organizations or Groups of people tend to follow their organizational inertia (what they have always been doing or what they are incentivized to do while avoiding what they have failed at or have been penalized for doing). Admin Tasks and Administrative Rolls are rolled when dealing with these groups and the complex systems of these organizations.

Use the Governance Table Dice Modifier to reflect moving a system or organization against its Inertia. The PC’s Skill reflects their ability to overcome the inertia and difficulty.

Note that the corrupt, incompetent, and/or unscrupulous among the various organizations will see PCs and other outsiders as sources of wealth to be wrung dry, fools to exploit, or enemies to fight; whether or not this is deserved or in character with the prevailing culture of the world that the organizations belong to.

Advocate is the skill for dealing with Legal and Regulatory aspects of Administration. The Governance Table Dice Modifier of a World can apply to the Legal Rolls of the PCs regrding claims and contract violations.

Influencing Attitudes Expanded

People are needed to interpret transactions, managing the attention and perception of people, determining what aspect of reality will be processed.

3 through courtesy, compliments, sincere attention, and consideration.

Leadership. when the credibility, sincerity, and authenticity of the speaker is needed to be communicated.

Worsening Attitudes to a 3rd Party

It’s not necessarily just to improve the attitude of an NPC to the PC, but can be used to worsen the attitude of an NPC towards another NPC or group.

Temporary Influence with Threats

Fear, Threats, and Coercion can be used to get a Friendly and Helpful reaction. In Kratocracies this is the only acceptable form of influence. When using such methods and skills, the same Influence Check creates a better Attitude temporarily. This makes a change of attitude of 2 levels instead of 1 temporarily - for as long as the threat or coercion can be maintained. As soon as the threat cannot be maintained (or its discovered to be a deception or an uncredible threat) the attitude becomes hostile.

Credit Value in Mneme

The cost changes are to align the Credit Value so that spacecraft cost is closer to real-world values. Most other item costs will be counted in miliCredits, with a miliCredit being roughly equal to 1 USD

These are the most common asteroids, being 75% of the known asteroids found. They have Volatile-Rich compounds and they are known for their low reflectivity.

Have a density of 1.7 mass tonnes per volume ton (or 1.7g / cm3).

These are found around the Cold Zone and Farther out the Solar System.

S-group: Silicaceous Asteroids

17% of asteroids are Silicaceous Asteroids (aka Stony). Relatively high density and moderately reflective.

X-group: Metallic Asteroids

These are the much rarer metallic asteroids. They are much denser and typically found in the Inner Solar System.

This is meant as a system for the arriving at a set of unusual cultural traits for future civilizations. Roll on this table a few times for each civilization you wish to add random traits to. These obviously won’t be the culture’s only traits; but they will be things that the culture finds very important with regards to their cultural identity. Note that even seemingly conflicting ideas might be held by a culture; with the contradiction easily ignored, justified, or accommodated by the people of that culture.

1-1 Transveganism

Your consumption of food must cause the least suffering possible. Do not kill to eat. Do not support the taking of life for food. If you can subsist on synthesized nutrients, do so.

Pragmatic Eating

Eat the food you need to eat to be healthy. Eat the food that is available. Looking to eat what is unavailable is inconsiderate. Limiting what you can eat because you are squeamish is idiocy.

Food as Status

What you can eat and how much you can eat is determined by your status, affiliation, and/or occupation.

Food Traditions

You must be observant of the many food traditions; of what you can and can't eat and when and where it is appropriate to eat certain things.

Food Freedom

Diet is a matter of preference. Beyond certain necessary taboos, meddling with how much and what someone can eat is oppression.

If it can be eaten, you must try it at least once in your life. There are no food taboos.

1-2 Nudists

Clothes are unnatural and to be avoided whenever possible.

Practical Wear

Clothes are to be worn for purely practical reasons.

Clothes as Status

What you can wear is determined by your status, affiliation, and/or occupation.

Ceremonial Fashion

Only barbarians are unaware that there is a type or style or manner of wearing clothing appropriate to every occasion.

Personal Style

Who you are inside must be reflected in what you wear.

Haute Couture

What you wear is who you are, and anyone who doesn't wear elaborate customized clothing is either lazy, destitute, or desperately trying to avoid interaction.

1-3 Desexualized Culture

Obsessing over your own and other's sexual characteristic is a sign of immaturity and a waste of time. The idea of modesty is the sign of a backward culture.

Virtuous Immodesty

Flaunt it if you have it. Fake it if you don't. There's no such thing as impropriety or indecency.

Sexualized Culture

There are some limits to the sorts of things you are allowed to show in public. Treading the line between what you can and can't show is an art.

Measured Modesty

There's a time and place for modesty and a time and place for sexuality. Don't mix them up and you'll do just fine.

Prudish Culture

Sexual propriety is necessary for societal order and moral development. Immodesty is a sign of maleducation and poor moral character.

Extreme Modesty

Showing more of your body than is absolutely necessary is shameful and disrespectful. You are only allowed to show specific parts of your body in public.

1-4 Where you lay your Head is Home

You live where you work. It's simple and convenient.

Extreme Hospitality

It is shameful to turn a guest away from you without very good reason. It is prestigious to host many guests.

Communal Homes

Living alone is unhealthy. Living with an extended family is normal. A home shared with neighbors is a blessing.

Home Hierarchies

There are strict divisions of seniority, age, relationship, and/or gender within the home and any provided shelter; determining where you can and can't go and what you can and can't do within it .

Home is Where You are Laid to Rest

Once you've settled down and made a home for yourself and your family, it is natural that you will die in that home and unthinkable that you will find a new home.

Private Sanctuary

Only the truly trusted and worthy should be allowed to enter beyond the threshold into the sanctum of a private home.

1-5 Money is Evil

Money is for savages. Private ownership is a sign of moral corruption.

Keep Only what you Need

While it is normal to own some prized personal possessions, one should never hoard the sorts of things that may be needed by others, and must place what they have in excess in a collective pool or give these to the less fortunate among their number.

Hidden Riches

Flaunting your wealth is rude and boorish, and attracts swindlers and thieves. Enjoy your wealth in private and show in public only that you have enough to live comfortably.

Money isn't Everything

To gain great wealth is good but not as admirable as some other achievements. Money is a means to other ends and should be used for worthwhile ventures.

Greed is Good

The worth of an individual is determined by the riches they have amassed and by what they can potentially buy.

Blessed Extravagance

Your societal standing depends on the amount you can regularly spend on extravagance and the amount and extravagance of the things you regularly give away to others.

1-6 Art is Rubbish

Art is a pointless waste of resources.

Form Follows Function

There are things of beauty, but beauty must not get in the way of practicality. Art that hinders function should be done away with.

Everyone Can do Art

Everyone is expected to have some basic level of competence in each form of artistic expression and more advanced skill in one or more of these.

Art is a Balance of Form and Function

Function is important, but beautiful form is of almost equal importance. Even functional things should be made beautiful in a way that does not hinder their function much.

Form over Function

How it makes you feel is of primary importance, perhaps of more importance than how well it works.

Art Elitism

The lofty world of high artistic expression is not to be sullied by the uncultured, who cannot, in any case, appreciate or understand the true nature of beauty expressed in our exalted works.

2-1 I Am Number One

Always look out for yourself. It's absurd to do anything that doesn't benefit you or bring you pleasure. True friendship is a pleasant fiction and everyone uses everyone.

A Small Circle

Only those close to and truly loyal to you deserve your aid and your trust. They are your comrades. Treat them well and let the rest of the world burn so that they may prosper.

Look Out for Your Own

Those closest to you deserve the most of your time and resources and devotion. Those further from you deserve increasingly less unless there's something in it for you.

Balanced Collectivism

While community is very important, to live a healthy and balanced life, one must give greater importance to friends and family and must not neglect the self.

Altruism is Commendable

Altruism is admirable and those who sacrifice for the good of others are heroes and worthy of praise and reward.

Live and Die for the Good of All

It is only right and proper and expected of all to live and to die for the betterment of society and of humanity as a whole. The needs of the many always outweighs the needs of the few.

2-2 Unity of Mind and Spirit

Everyone must be of one mind and spirit. Suggesting otherwise leads to chaos.

Culture of Conformity

Only when there is no path should one experiment and innovate. Even our greatest heroes follow the path laid out for them by those who came before.

Highly Regulated Individuality

There is a time and place for innovation and individuality, but it is not a thing for everyone. Certain positions and occupations require more of this than others and being allowed such leeway is a privilege of the select few.

Stick to the Norms

Within certain norms, innovation and individual style are permitted and, in many cases, expected and encouraged.

Individualists

Conformity is easy and lazy. Putting that little piece of yourself in everything you do is admirable. True innovation is difficult and worthy of much praise. Devotion to individuality and following one's own path is a sign of great potential.

Radical Individuality

The freedom to express one's unique individuality is a sacred right. Conformity is Oppression.

2-3 Privacy is Evil

It is good to know how everyone else feels and thinks and what everyone else is doing. Only those of poor moral character hide their mistakes, evil intentions, and dubious or dastardly deeds.

Some Matters are Private

While openness is the norm, there are certain sensitive matters that must remain private for the safety and/or dignity of those involved. Revealing such things may earn you a reputation as a troublemaker. Hiding other matters is suspicious and antisocial.

Privacy is a Privilege

Criminals and other outcasts have shown that they do not deserve and cannot be trusted with privacy. Privacy is the privilege of the honorable and law abiding person.

Levels of Trust

While some matters are to be kept secret between those involved; there are things that select people have a right to know especially if they are close enough to those involved and it will affect them directly at the personal or professional level.

Privacy Preserves Peace

Any remotely or potentially awkward, sensitive, or shameful matter should be handled in private to preserve the honor, peace, and dignity of all involved.The public need not know anything about a matter that can be resolved quickly and quietly. If you learn of other's private affairs, it is proper to feign ignorance and bury the evidence.

Privacy is Power

Every little bit of information you share can be used as a weapon against you or those you care about. Reveal only what you absolutely must reveal so as not to lose your competitive edge.

2-4 What Gender Roles?

Gender is merely a biological trait. Apart from purely biological differences, gender has no bearing.

Gender Tendencies

There are significant physical, mental, and cultural differences between genders; but humans are all the same at the core. Those of a gender have certain common tendencies, but nothing is set in stone.

Strict Equal Gender Roles

Members of each gender have vastly different social or familial roles and are born to excel in different occupations or vocations. The sexes are different but equal.

Institutionalized Chauvinism

Members of the superior gender must provide for and protect members of the inferior gender.

Gender Superiority

Members of the lesser sex have considerably less rights than the other gender and might even be considered property.

Gender Isolation

Members of the other sex are not meant to participate in public life and must remain hidden away from public view.

2-5 What Gender Norms?

Gender has little if any bearing with regards to societal treatment and interactions. There are few if any gender stereotypes and differentiation tends to be purely medical.

Norms are Suggestions

Gender norms are merely suggestions. They make for interesting stories but are of no real consequence beyond being how the majority of a gender acts.

Gender Expression = Gender Role

It is best for feminine men to be considered female and for masculine women to be considered male so that they may express themselves properly. Technique and technology can aid in this.

Unequal Gender Rules

One gender must strictly adhere to expected expressions of that gender, or else. The other can get away with deviating from gender norms.

Deviance is Ridiculed

Men who use feminine expression and women who use masculine expression may suffer ridicule, but their rights are still respected and their merits are not ignored.

Gender is Set in Stone

Men must always display only masculine traits and women always only feminine ones so as not to risk corrective measures, ostracism, or worse.

2-6 Elders are Unimportant

People lose value and importance as they age. That the elderly are discriminated against and expected to remain out of public view is normal, expecially when they are unpresentable, frail, or senile.

Children are the Future

Childhood is sacred and children are the future. It is the sacred duty of those who are older to protect and to work to ensure the health, safety, and happiness of those who are younger than themselves.

Age is unimportant

Your mental and physical maturity and capability are far more important than your numeric age. Age restrictions are few and flexible.

Age Divisions

There are rigid rules regarding your societal role and norms depending on your age; with society divided strictly by age into 2 or more groups, each with differing rights and restrictions and vastly differing expectations with regards to what they can wear and how they conduct themselves.

Respected Elders

Elders are respected authorities and valued for the wisdom and experience they have that cannot be matched by those much younger than they. Younger people must always respect and obey their elders.

Children are Property

Children have yet to earn the right to be treated like people. Until they can support themselves and others, they are the property of their guardians.

3-1 Disability is Death

It is only proper to euthanize the disabled for the betterment of society. Tolerating minor impairments beyond legal limits leads to tolerating major ones.

Disability Discrimination

Those with lesser capability have less to offer society and should be given less by society.

Disability Correction

It is important that those with disabilities be given special training and equipment so they may fit into society without inconveniencing others or requiring special accommodation. Special accomodation should, of course, be given only when this is not possible.

Meeting Half-way with the Handicapped

While it is good to accommodate disability, it is not always practical or feasible to do this everywhere for everyone. While disability is nothing to be ashamed of, everyone; the disabled included; must do their part too to lessen the burden that disability in general might place on each individual.

Disability Benefits

It is in the best interest of society to care for and accommodate the disabled for the betterment of all and as a means of promoting societal advancement. All public areas and utilities must have minimum accomodations for serious disabilities and others must give them priority.

Glorious Disability

Disabilities that align with vocation are a sign of dedication and virtue. Things like the blind musician or masseuse, crippled deskworker, castrait singer, etc. are ubiquitous in this society.

3-2 Atheology

Those who believe in the metaphysical or anything beyond the scientifically provable are fools in need of reeducation.

Spiritual Conflict

It is normal to fight for what one believes in. Conflicts between those with differing spiritual beliefs are inevitable. The correct belief will win out in the end.

Many Beliefs, One People

There are many beliefs regarding the spiritual. Fighting over them is illegal, morally wrong, and can lead to dangerous conflict and societal ruin.

Reflections of the Truth

All religious and spiritual belief systems are reflections of the true hidden spiritual reality.

Strong Spirituality

People may not agree on the specifics, but it is certain and obvious that there are metaphysical and spiritual things outside of the material understanding of physical reality. It is important for people to study and understand such matters.

Theological Certainty

The society is absolutely certain of the correctness of its spiritual beliefs and those who ascribe to other beliefs are worthy of either pity or scorn.

3-3 Unreligious

Religions, morality, and the idea of a philosophical right or wrong are works of fiction. What we consider right or wrong as a society should be what is objectively better for the majority of members of society.

Pragmatic Spirituality

Traditions should be kept and religious practices respected, but religion and philosophy should not get in the way of real life and living. Religions should cater to the practical and real needs of society.

Hypocrisy

People enjoy religious practices and the religious aesthetic. It is good to keep up such appearances, but it is human nature to do what is more convenient and natural.

Philosophical Consistency

If you believe in a religion or philosophy, you should act in accordance to that belief. Not doing so is hypocrisy.

Institutionalized Religiousness

There are certain prescribed religious practices that all good members of society must ascribe to.

Zealotry

Those who do not devote their lives to their religious or philosophical beliefs are unworthy of respect and should be removed from society.

3-4 Tradition Shmadition

Traditions are pointless inconveniences followed by those who do not like to think for themselves. We must tear down the old to make way for the new.

Tradition is Expendable

Traditions should be discarded the moment that they get in the way of that which is practical.

Preserve Tradition

Tradition is important but there is a point at which tradition must be replaced by what is better and new. When this happens, the old tradition must be preserved, even if it is nothing more than a historical novelty.

Traditional Style

While traditions can change over time, everything must be done in the prescribed traditional style. When an old tradition is outdated or when there is no tradition, a new traditional style should be developed for the sake of cultural identity.

Inherited WIsdom

Only when there is no path to follow or when traditions cease to work must we depart from established tradition. Even our greatest heroes relied on the wisdom of those who came before them.

Hallowed Traditions

Traditions are sacrosanct and must be followed, even at the cost of your life, limbs, sanity, or society.

3-5 Naive Foreign Policy

It is common wisdom and an integral part of our cultural identity to welcome and give hospitality to all foreigners. If we welcome them with open arms, they will certainly only act in our best interests.

Xenophilia

All these wonderful and exotic cultural traits and traditions must absolutely be enjoyed by our culture.

Cultural Exchange

Please enjoy our culture and let us enjoy yours when possible.

Cultural Competition

If a foreign culture has something good that we do not have an equivalent of, we should make our own better version of such.

Xenophobia

We do not readily trust in outsiders and rightly so. Outsiders must earn our trust.

Xenocide

Outsiders cannot be trusted and must be purged. There is no ground for tolerance or diplomacy.

3-6 Lying is Good

Blatant truth is for those too stupid to read between the lines. Lies are the glue that prevents societal collapse. Lies are the shield that protects you from being taken advantage of. Even your allies must be lied to now and then to keep them on their toes.

Art of the Lie

Lying is an art. You can mislead with the truth or reveal the truth with a lie.

Small Lies are Fine

Small lies are fine. Big ones can lead to big problems. It's a balancing act.

A Necessary Evil

Lying is morally wrong but sometimes necessary, especially when speaking the truth leads to something terrible.

Omission is Okay

It is bad to lie but omitting some truths is usually okay.

Only the Truth

Only the truth must be spoken. There are no exceptions. Lying by Omission is a sign of moral weakness.

4-1 Honor is for Fools

Those who believe in codes of honor are following nonsense invented to make the foolish more predictable. They should be shown the error and self righteousness of their stupid notions of honor.

False Honor

We live in a society with an honor code. Do what you will in secret. Just don't get caught breaking the code and you will do just fine.

Lax Honor

The honor code exists, but only a few can truly stick to it. This is normal.

Simple Code

The honor code is simple and has only 3 (or less) rules that one must abide by

Honor Society

Those who fail to uphold our honor code are morally weak and must be punished or ostracized.

Death Before Dishonor

It is better to die than to live in dishonor. The dishonorable must be purged for society for the good of all.

4-2 Hurtfulness is Disharmonious

It is highly important not to hurt or offend anyone in any way. This included refraining from hurtful words and actions.

Violence is Unacceptable

Violence is to be avoided as much as possible. Defend without retaliation. Negotiate. Promote peace and harmony.

Violence is Bad

Violence is bad and leads to societal troubles. It should only be used as a last resort.

Prepared for Violence

Violence is less than desirable but people must be inured to and prepared for violence in case the worst were to happen. Experts on such matters are important and respected.

Recreational Violence

A bit of pain increases pleasure. The primal appeal of violent displays should not be discounted, but also not allowed to go so far that it endangers society.

Society of Violence

Violence is good. It weeds out the weak and allows for the strong and determined to dominate society.

4-3 Disharmony is Good

Great disharmony is good in all relationships, and a sign of closeness. You don't fight with hurt, or get hurt by, those you don't care about. Since people are different it's obvious that they will clash. What's important is that you stick it out despite the clashes.

Curmudgeonism

For a person to be able to get along with another for an extended period is weird. Tolerate those you work with and need just long enough to get away from them. Deep down, everyone hates everyone.

Disharmony is Normal

Some people get along, some don't. That's just how things are. It's unnatural to try to get those who don't get along to do so. Just work around it and stick to those you get along with.

It's good to get Along

Harmony with those you live with, work closely with, and enjoy the company of is important. Harmony with everyone else, while not realistic, is ideal.

Harmony is a Necessity

It is necessary to get along with those around you as much as you can and not to cause disharmony.

Harmonism

It is always important to be in harmony with all of those around you and for those around you to be in harmony with one another. It is your duty to make this so.

4-4 Nonconfrontation

Confrontation should be avoided at all costs. It is better to fold or flee than to fight and to be quiet or absent rather than to argue.

Polite Fiction

It is impolite and crass to oppose others openly in public or outright refuse or contradict what is being stated by another. You look unreasonable and bad when you make someone else look unreasonable and bad. Polite fictions ensure that everyone saves face. You can put your foot down while remaining nonconfrontational.

Reciprocity

Be polite to those who are polite, rude to those who are rude, calm and composed with those who are calm and composed and confrontational with those who are confrontational.

Don't Poke the Bear

Be kind and polite and tolerant when you can, because there will be times when and people with whom you must be utterly savage. eserve your fury for when you are cornered or in the right against unreasonable opposition.

Direct Efficient Confrontation

Things must be addressed directly and efficiently as they are. There's no point in beating around the bush or pretending problems are not what they seem.

Confrontationalism

You must assert your dominance in all situations, confronting all who would potentially oppose you and cowing or co-opting them so as to avoid future problems.

4-5 No Government

Each adult individual is a power unto themselves and must not rule or be ruled by others. Children must be guided by and must obey their parents or guardians only until they come of age.

Ungoverned Government

We've found a way to make the government pretty much run itself. Everything is done according to a prescribed set of rules and and according to our precalculated principles; and deviation from how the system runs will correct itself within a reasonable amount of time. At least, that's our theory.

Elitist Government

Only a special elite few will have the chance to run the government or to participate in government affairs.

Meritocratic Examination

Each specific government role has a series of tests that must be passed. Aside from some exceptions due to necessary safeguards, the person with the highest result in the appropriate tests is the one who will be selected for the position.

Popular Government

While it's important that everyone can participate in and have some say in matters of government, it is unrealistic to expect absolutely everyone to be interested in or to regularly directly participate in government. That's why we have elected representatives.

Mandatory Participation

Every person can and must participate in government and civic affairs up to the limits of their ability to do so. It's how you keep society working properly.

4-6 Anti-Authority

Societies that function on the basis of some people having authority over others should be opposed and abolished whenever possible. Authority is disguised oppression and those who support it are either evil or ignorant. All will understand this in time.

No Inherent Authority

No one rules you. You can do whatever you want so long as you can get away with it and so can everyone else. The idea of Authority is an invention made to keep people in line.

Contractual Authority

You never need to follow those who claim authority but never got your direct consent to be your leader. For subordination to be moral, the subordinate must have agreed to follow a leader without being coerced or deceived. Such contracts break down when the leader's actions as a leader do not align with the goals that the relationship was formed to achieve.

Authority with Obligations

Authority stems from moral righteousness and leadership capability. While authority must be obeyed, a leader that cannot or will not rule properly for the equal benefit of all members of society is not qualified for leadership and should be replaced.

Authority

There are some people who inherently have authority over others due to some quality bestowed unto them by fate. (Note to Referee: For best effect, make this quality something completely arbitrary and irrelevant)

Absolute Authority

Authorities must be obeyed at all costs. Rules must always be followed. Without respect for such basic established principles, society shall collapse into chaos.

5-1 Consensus is a Lie

Consensus is just a group of people copying one another's answers. The real truth is unknowable. Just work with what you have. No one can know how much they do not know and no one can truly trust their own perceptions.

Trust Only Your Judgment

You must never trust the opinions of others. You must evaluate everything directly yourself, trusting always in your own personal judgment.

Tribal Think

It is the opinion of the group that you most identify with that is most likely to be correct. If those you identify with are wrong, you must either change their minds or identify with a different group.

Expert Consensus

In matters of importance, it is best to consult those in the know and who are most up-to-date regarding the specific topic.

Popular Consensus

What the majority believes is almost certainly the truth... and if it isn't, at least most others were wrong too.

Consensus is Reality

Belief makes reality in a literal sense. The more people believe something, the more true it becomes.

5-2 Beyond War

We belong to a society that is able to survive and thrive without the need to engage in armed conflict at any significant scale. War is a form of barbarism that we will not stoop to, no matter the cost. Violent conflicts must be ended as quickly and peacefully as possible before they spiral out of control.

Defensive Pacifism

War is disruptive and destructive and against everything we stand for. We will defend ourselves but will never otherwise take part in a conflict between nations.

War is a Last Resort

War must never be undertaken lightly or for the wrong reasons. War should never be undertaken when there is an acceptable peaceful alternative. One must nonetheless be prepared for the possibility of war.

Glorious War

While war is not to be undertaken lightly, it is right and proper to go to war to preserve the honor and dignity of our people. Those who distinguish themselves during times of war are deserving of praise and great rewards.

War is a Tool

War is just another form of interaction between nations. It is a dangerous, costly, and creates enemies, but there will be times when it is preferable to other alternatives. Support your country when it goes to war.

Perpetual War

War is normal. Peace is the time to prepare for war. Humanity naturally forms into factions that make war. War brings progress and concentrates resources in the hands of those of a superior culture. It is in the interest of humanity to perpetuate war.

5-3 Anti-Clique

Relationships and societal interactions are transactional. Overly close relationships with others risks bias, favoritism, and irrational behavior, which is the cause of societal ills.

All One Clique

Subdividing society into cliques is bad. To be a good member of society, one must instead get to know and be as close as possible to as many members of society as possible and to treat all such members with equal closeness.

Casual Clique

While it's nice to be part of a clique, that sort of thing is nowhere near as important as good relationships and time spent with family, work group, or peers.

Competing Cliques

Your clique goes a long way in determining your societal status. A person of great value will be sought after by the most prestigious, popular, and powerful cliques. A person of little value can gain standing by being part of an important social circle.

Exclusive Circle

It is essential to find a group of like minded people and join them as part of the same clique that you will be spending the majority of your recreational hours with. Once you have joined a clique, joining another is poor form. You give your loyalty to your clique and your clique will be loyal to you.

A Clique is Everything

Your clique is literally simultaneously your circle of friends, your social circle, your family, and the organization that you are affiliated with and work for or command. It is normal for Cliques to socially distance themselves from one another.

5-4 Adhocracy

Individual initiative and self-organization are the rule of the day. There's a lot of inefficiency in larger groups and organizations but people go with the flow, expecting that things will all generally work out in the end.

Bureaucracy Where it Matters

Bureaucratic procedure is reserved only for where it is truly needed or important. Otherwise, people just get by without it.

Fast Until it Isn't

There is an efficiently functioning, highly effective bureaucracy that rarely intrudes on daily life. Unfortunately, it is inflexible and does not account for things outside of societal norms aside from the most common deviations from the norm.

Bureaucratic Farce

There exists a byzantine bureaucracy that only serves to hinder and mystify outsiders. Those familiar to the culture know that there are all manner of shortcuts around the bureaucracy and a fair number of bureaucratic steps that can be safely ignored.

Byzantine Bureaucracy

Red tape, lines, wait lists, and complicated forms are all part of daily life. Things must be planned well in advance and nothing is allowed to happen that isn't scheduled and sanctioned by the proper authorities.

Impenetrable Bureaucracy

The bureaucracy is so overwhelmingly Byzantine, it's a wonder that society even functions. Even veteran bureaucrats have difficulty doing anything beyond their narrow field of specialty,

5-5 Dominators

It is the duty of our species to become the superior and supreme species and to dominate all others, destroying those that are threats to this goal.

Apathetic

We couldn't care less about the whole issue of sapient or non-human life. We just do what we do, and if that messes them up then so be it.

Kind Masters

It is right and proper for more advanced species to be the stewards of lesser species such that a proper hierarchy or balance evolves between all species.

Fellow Travelers

All creatures are on a journey together. It is not for any species to say what is right or wrong for another or but for the species to decide for itself without forcibly imposed change or restriction. Each type of creature has a nature and a place in its ecosystem that cannot be denied.

Preservers

Creatures, from the lowliest microbe to the most complex deserve to live in their natural environment or a close equivalent with as little disruption as possible. In case of changes they can't survive, at least some of them should be preserved for posterity.

Uplifters

It is the duty of more advanced species to aid less advanced species in their development. It is good for as many beings as possible to share in the journey of evolution and development together.

5-6 Alien Outsiders

The effects of the meeting of other intelligences with our culture is so potentially disruptive that we should avoid interactions with such beings at all cost. Isolation of both sides from one another is the best solution.

Alien Enemies

Other sapients are our foes and must be annihilated

They're Just Animals

Other sapients are not us and should find a place in the library of ways in which we deal with other non-humans.

We're all Alien Intelligences

It's not like we can really understand human cultures either. Non-Human Sapients should be treated just like human ones, judged individually.

A Universe of Friends and Family

All sapients are kin. We must all get along for the good of all sapients.

Alien Understanding is Valuable

To become smarter and to understand what we otherwise would not, it is paramount that we incorporate the use of alien intelligences into our civilization and, if possible, into ourselves.

6-1 Our Culture is a Gift

We must spread our culture far and wide so that all civilizations may bask in the light of our cultural perfection.

Change is Bad

Our hallowed culture is perfect as it is and must be preserved at all costs.

Culture is Competition

My culture is better than your culture, or it will be. This sort of attitude is what leads to good cultural change

Culture is Exchange

Every culture copies from every other culture. That's a good thing and cultural change is a good thing. The unique combinations of cultural traits and icons are what spawn new cultural traits and icons.

Culture is Always Changing

Cultures will develop as they will without our active direction or attempts at interference. Cultural change is neither bad nor good.

Culture should be Cultivated

We must actively take part in creating the kind of culture we desire or else a different culture will spring up. Cultural change is dangerous but unavoidable, so we must carefully move forwards with it.

6-2 Virtues are Nonsense

Virtues are a concept of primitive societies. People are really just self interested beings and the only real virtues are whatever society needs right now.

The Virtuous are Special

There is a certain type of rare person who is just built differently such that they have an overabundance of true Virtue. Most people just aren't Virtuous and that's okay.

Speak not of Your Virtues

There's nothing people hate more than a braggart other than a braggart pretending to be humble. If you have real virtue, people will recognize it without it needing to be told.

Proclaim Your Virtues

It is normal and good for people to proclaim their virtues as this allows society to correct them if they are erroneous about what is virtuous if they are wrong and it forces people to keep to and cultivate the virtues they have proclaimed so as not to lose face.

Virtue Cultivation

Proclaiming yours or someone else's virtues is great but what's better is actually cultivating greater virtue.

Proclaim Your Virtues

It is normal and good for people to proclaim their virtues as this allows society to correct them if they are erroneous about what is virtuous if they are wrong and it forces people to keep to and cultivate the virtues they have proclaimed so as not to lose face.

6-3 Asceticism

Vices are an unacceptable affront to civilization. We are not animals that we must succumb to vice. All vices must be rooted out for the good of humanity.

Shameful an Immoral

Vices are a shameful part of our nature and must be avoided as much as possible, even if we are likely to falter. A time will come when vices can be eradicated but that time isn't now.

A Shameful but Necessary Evil

While we can't help but indulge in vice, we should at least keep the undesirable sight of human folly away from the public eye and from proper society. There are places where your specific vices can be practiced if you care to look for them.

Natural but Inconvenient

Vices are unproductive, but also unavoidable. WHile they are part of who we are and there is no shame in them, we must curb our indulgence to remain a functioning society. This is why we set proper times and places for such things and reasonable limits.

Normal

Vices are normal and natural. They're a part of living and so, long as it doesn't harm others or get in the way of important matters, people should be allowed to indulge in the vices they want to indulge in.

Vice is an Art

A person has not lived until they have tried all manner of vice and pleasure. Our natures are to be indulged and our experiences expanded so that we may become complete.

6-4 Non Media

Media is just the method with which we communicate and its use should be limited to personal interactions, needed information relay, or important public announcements only. Entertainment media is wasteful.

Forbidden Media

Certain forms or types or topics of Media are rightly prohibited. Willing consumption of these is a crime and addiction to their consumption a form of madness.

Media Control

Media must be highly regulated. Free media is dangerous, with irresponsible use of it potentially aiding criminal elements, causing psychosis, or worse. People must only consume certified Media.

Media Traditions

Certain types of media must be consumed under specific traditional constraints. This means that there are special time, occasions, places, and/or methods for consuming the and to consume such inappropriately is boring. Consistently doing so is the mark of a societal outcast.

Right to Media

Humans are social creatures and while there are times when one must not access media, the ability to access media at any other time is a basic right.

Media Addiction

A constant stream of media is necessary for sanity. Those whose work requires truly undivided concentration must be able to step away at regular brief intervals to consume media.

6-5 Fame

To be remembered throughout the ages for whatever reason, good or bad, is the mark of a life well lived. You are not truly someone unless you are known far and wide. How long you are remembered after you are gone is the measure of your success.

Glory

To be praised far and wide, acclaimed in the histories, and have massive monuments in ones name is the mark of greatness that one must aspire to. Achievement and making a glorious unmistakable mark in society is what one should aspire to.

Kinship and Affection

The true measure of greatness is the number of truly close friends, lovers, and family that you can personally share your life with and the depth of your friendship, love, and affection for one another

Knowledge and Wisdom

Knowledge, or rather, the proper application of knowledge is power. Anything can be had by one who knows how to get it.

Money Matters

Wealth is necessary for survival and is the most tangible and universally applicable form of power. Amassing resources is a must.

Virtue

To be a truly righteous person is a reward in and of itself that no one can take away from you. To do what is right must be done because it is right and one must be truly righteous to do so.

6-6 Antinatalism

It is best not to bring new beings into this universe only that they may suffer and die.

Small Groups of Pioneers

Instead of forcing ourselves into a condensed environment, we should instead have a small number of people in many places. Big Families should divide themselves and move to distant places. Ideal sized ones should regulate their population size to remain the same.

Population Control

Every place can tolerate a certain maximum human population without things there being thrown out of balance. Population should be regulated to a bit under that maximum value.

Controlled Expansion

Every place can accommodate a certain maximum human population. Things should be done so that we can increase this maximum as much as possible everywhere we can go.

Colonize the Stars

We must populate the universe and spread our species throughout the cosmos.

Population Explosion

Birth control is unnatural and more humans are a blessing. It doesn't matter if there's no more space. Things will sort themselves out in the end.

To create your own star system hex map, gather the information you have regarding your stat system and do the following.

  • Place your primary star at the center of the hex grid. This will be the “Primary Star Hex”
  • The “circle” of hexes adjacent to the this “Primary Star Hex” will be where the nearest important celestial body (or asteroid field or dust cloud) to the star orbits. It would be best to think of the map in terms of a series of “circles” (hexagons) of increasing size around the Primary Star.
  • Note the distance of this nearest body from the primary star (use average distance). This will be the rough distance of travel between hexes. Typically, you’d want to use UA as your unit of measurement and instead of using the exact distance, round off the number up to a more easily multiplied value (Perhaps every 0.5 or 0.25 AU for smaller scale areas or 10s of AU for bigger ones.)
  • Now; considering the hex map as a series of increasingly larger “circles” (hexagons); find the “circle” of hexes that would be the proper distance in a straight line from the primary star to contain the next nearest celestial body. That would be where that body orbits
  • Do the same thing to determine the orbit for each remaining celestial body of note in the star system, from nearest to the primary start to the farthest from it.
  • In some cases, the distance of more distant celestial bodies might be too far from the primary star to be practical. In this case, cut off the map at an appropriate distance and make a new map with the rough distance between the star and the farthest object in your first map as its distance between hexes. That body will be in an orbit in the “circle” of Hexes adjacent to the primary star in the new map. Then continue the mapmaking from that point on
  • While you might want to mark the location of each planet, it should be noted that this position will change over time; which generally isn’t a big deal for settings with Faster than Light Travel. Just place the planets in a random or appropriate hex in their orbit and change their position depending on how long it takes to complete an orbit and how many hexes they have to travel to do so. Each hex movement happens in time of total orbit/ number of hexes in the orbit.
